Construction, whether of homes, office buildings, public facilities, or related to the infrastructure of harbors and bridges, is an important part of society and everyday life.

At construction sites around the world, many types of machines are used, most for long periods of time depending on the project. Equipment at these sites may be in severe environments such as mountainous areas, snowy areas or undeveloped areas, subjecting the bearings and linear motion rolling guides to a variety of conditions such as heavy load + shock load or low load but high speed rotation. Durability and high reliability in these environments and conditions becomes very important.

Architecture and Construction

Jib Climbing Crane

Jib Climbing Crane

A typical crane used to construct skyscrapers. It is used to lift the load through the wire rope at the tip of the jib (arm). It allows support pillars to be added as construction progresses and the work to continue while the building ascends. Since it is used at construction sites at high altitudes, safety measures against earthquakes, windstorms and lightning strikes are important. The bearings used are required to have high reliability.

Compressive shear testing machine for seismic isolation rubber

Compressive Shear Testing Machine

A compressive shear testing machine for seismic isolation rubber is a device used for checking whether the rubber is capable of withstanding large-scale earthquakes. Seismic isolation rubber makes it possible to reduce the force transmitted to the building in the event of an earthquake by installing a seismic isolation device between each pillar and the foundation of the building. Since a large load is applied upon the generation of shear force in this testing machine, a linear motion rolling guide with high load capacity and long life is required.

Harbor Crane

Harbor Crane

Harbor cranes are installed on quays in harbors to load and unload shipping cargo. Seismic isolation devices are installed in the legs of these cranes in order to transfer emergency supplies in the event of large-scale disasters such as earthquakes. Since it is subject to heavy loads, the linear motion rolling guide used in these cranes must have smooth and stable frictional characteristics in addition to a high load capacity. It also must be dust and corrosion resistant to withstand outdoor use.
